Yesterday was the 1st anniversary of Katrina and so I went out and took some photos to contrast with those Steve had taken in October of last year (the first photo is from last year and the 2nd is from now). Though the Gulf Coast is still a mess, it looks a lot better and is on its way to recovery.
For Mom it was a sad day. She said it was the first time she had cried over what had happened to her. We drove to Mobile for the day and as we strolled through Williams-Sanoma we reminisced about the All-Clad pots we had bought her the Xmas before and the Henkel knives we had given her several years before that. Trivial things that really bring home the fact that she lost everything she had.
To me it's amazing how in such a short time span, less than a year, she's been able to get on with her life. She was fortunate enough to be able to buy a new house and has furnished it. She's gone back to her routine of golf and bridge and her friends. She's preparing a luncheon for next week and tonight we went to a party where she danced and had a great time.
